Baksey Cham Krong (KH)

1959 – 1966 Disbanded

Cambodia's first guitar band, formed in 1959 by the teenage brothers Mol Kamach on vocals and Mol Kagnol on lead guitar with their friend Samley Hong. Raised on Paul Anka, Pat Boone, Chuck Berry, the Ventures and Cliff Richard and the Shadows, they took their name from a tenth-century Angkorian temple, the bird who shelters the city, and set off the wave of Cambodian guitar bands of the 1960s. They broke up in 1966; the 2015 documentary Don't Think I've Forgotten returned them to a wider audience.
