The Firebirds (DE)

1992 –

Rock and roll band from Leipzig, five musicians who cover and reinterpret songs of the 1950s and 1960s across rock and roll, rockabilly, boogie and swing. Guido Gentzel and Alexander Teich first played together in 1985, and in May 1992 they founded the band with Konrad Schoepe and Simon Fickenscher as teenagers at the Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium in Leipzig-Moeckern. They play around 150 concerts a year and have released six albums and two singles. The Firebirds Festival at Kloster Nimbschen near Leipzig takes its name from them and they appear on its bill. Not to be confused with the British band of the same name, catalogued here as 339.
