More info
A date on 'Rock 'n' Twist U.S.A.', the package tour promoted by George Cooper that played twenty-three consecutive nights across Britain in the spring of 1962, at the Gaumont Theatre on Wednesday 25 April 1962. The tour's souvenir programme, sold for a shilling, sets out the running order: the Condors opened, then the Kestrels 'from Saturday Club', Rolly Daniels, Danny Rivers and Mark Wynter, with Johnny Burnette closing the first half as 'america's popular recording star' on the strength of 'Dreamin'' and 'Little Boy Sad'. After the interval came the Flee-Rekkers, Gene McDaniels with 'Chip Chip' and Gary U.S. Bonds, 'direct from america', closing the show with 'New Orleans' and 'Quarter to Three'. Mark Wynter was the compere. It was Johnny Burnette's first tour of Britain; he died in a boating accident in California two years later, aged 30.
