A date on the first tour of Britain by an American rock and roll act, at the Odeon in Manchester on Wednesday 13 February 1957. Bill Haley and His Comets had crossed on the Queen Elizabeth and docked at Southampton on 5 February 1957, where a crowd reported at around five thousand was waiting; the reception at Waterloo station in London was written up in the press as the Second Battle of Waterloo. The tour ran from 6 February to 10 March, opening and closing at the Dominion Theatre on Tottenham Court Road, and took in twenty-three engagements across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
