17th SURFORAMA R'n'R Fest // 21-23 May 2019, Sala Repvblicca (Valencia, Spain). JD McPHERSON (USA): One of the leading talents in rock'n'roll and rhythm'n'blues of the past decade visits Surforama, celebrating the 10th anniversary of his debut album "Signs & Signifiers". SONIDO GALLO NEGRO (Mexico): Peruvian psychedelic cumbia soaked in surf-garage energy, with cosmic mambo and Middle Eastern mystery, the guiro melting into fuzz. Nine musicians, one of the most striking bands on the Mexican scene. SATAN'S PILGRIMS (USA): A key band of the 1990s surf revival. The original Portland quintet returns to Spain 21 years after its last visit for a single European date. Surfy-spooky-garage-stompin' good time. RAY COLLINS HOT CLUB (Germany): Current kings of jump blues, swing, boogie, jive and rhythm'n'blues. A nine-piece band that turns every set into a nonstop dance party. JUANITO WAU y LOS MALINCHES (Spain): The frontman of Wau y los Arrrghs returns to the stage leading Los Malinches, in a concert paying tribute to 1960s Latin American garage. A wild, exclusive date at Playa Surforama. THE SCHIZOPHONICS (USA): A high-energy San Diego trio led by Lety Beers and guitarist Pat Beers, whose playing crosses James Brown, MC5 and Jimi Hendrix. One of the most frenetic, explosive live shows around. MFC CHICKEN (UK): The band behind the best frat rock'n'roll northwest-style around presents its next album at its favourite beach. Do the chicken or you can't come in. THE KONGSMEN (Congo): The long-awaited return of Nat King Kong, Chango Reinhardt, Ape Turner, Paul McCaco, Chimp Krupa and Thelonius Monkey. After years of jungle retirement, the kings of simian frat-rock return. FIFTY FOOT COMBO (Belgium): Kings of the Monstrophonics Sound and one of the most powerful acts on the instro scene. The Belgians return to Playa Surforama to celebrate their 25th anniversary. Go Go Groove. HEATWAVES (Castellon): Sharing DNA with Shock Treatment and Depressing Claim, but owing their soul to the Shangri-Las, Shirelles, Ronettes and Motown. Delicious 60s pop with a new-wave edge. THE RHYTHM TREASURES (Barcelona): The new venture of Myriam Swanson (Flamingo Tours, Magnolia...). A rhythm'n'blues combo of wild rhythms, exotic touches and voodoo hip-shaking. TWIN TONES (Mexico): A ride with the wildest Spaghetti Western bandits. These mariachis of instrumental sound offer one of the most celebrated cinematic acts in the cantinas of Sonora. ESPECTROPLASMA (Mexico): Formed in 2001 and already a legend of the Mexican underground. From a galaxy near Man or Astro-Man?, they bring a personal mix of outer-space surf, post-punk, nuclear energy and electronic beats. THE WAVE CHARGERS (France): Heirs to the golden age of reverb sound, this French band has become one of the best instrumental surf acts to appear in Europe in recent years. Surf's up. THEE ANDREWS SURFERS (Belgium): From a secret Ghent beach comes this raw instrumental surf trio, heirs to Link Wray, The Surf Teens, Dick Dale and The Sonics. THE GREAT SURFORAMA ORCHESTRA (Sociedad Musical Poblats Maritims): A 40-piece orchestra playing music by the Ventures, Dick Dale, Perez Prado and Martin Denny, a unique show for the festival's 17th edition.
