Hillbilly Jazz w/ Eddie Clendening
More info
The Hillbilly Jazz matinee series continues to surprise and gratify fans of roots music, particularly rockabilly, western swing and R&B jazzy blues. Each episode brings together both new artists and established talent for your listening and dancing pleasure. In February, we are thrilled to announce that Eddie Clendening will headline our show on the 16th. Eddie originated the role of, and was featured as Elvis Presley in the hit Broadway musical “The Million Dollar Quartet”, where he performed 8 shows a week to packed houses racking up over 2200 performances! He also helped create and starred in the show “Heartbreak Hotel” that is currently the only Elvis Presley stage bio endorsed by the Elvis Presley estate, SONY Music and RCA. He continues to be seen on stage in plays and tribute shows to many of the other greats as well: Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash, and Carl Perkins to name a few. And, he continues to be in demand wherever fans of rock & roll gather. Eddie is beginning to get some much deserved acclaim, thanks to the release of his four studio albums to date; “Sometimes It Rains,” "Eddie Clendening Is... Walkin' And Cryin,' “Eddie Clendening Is... Knockin’ At Your Heart,” and “Eddie Clendening Is... The Rage Of The Teen-Age!,” plus several singles and compilation inclusions. Appearing before Eddie's 4:30 set is the Rockin' Rebels. With the energetic Jerry Prefontaine on stand-up drums forming the nucleus of the quartet, the brilliant guitar work continues to be performed by Eddie Hill with double bass by Jesse Hernandez. The recent acquisition of saxophonist Lawrence White from the James Harman band adds a whole new dimension to their sound. The Rockin' Rebels began in 1981 in Huntington Beach and appealed to both rockabilly and punk fans. They became a household word with teenagers all over Southern California with the single "Let's Bop" which got quite a bit of radio attention, climbing to #8 on KROQ. They filled every room that they played in and were one of the strongest forces in the Rockabilly movement in all of California. See for yourself how they have evolved! Kicking off the matinee is Amber Foxx & The Ranch House Romeos performing at 2 pm with upright bass player Bobby Cavener - who has teamed with Amber since 2002. They had a steady once a week show at the Doll Hut in Anaheim. At Viva Las Vegas 2003, Amber was included in the Modern Stars Of Rockabilly set with Charlie Thompson, Vicky Tafoya and Big Sandy. Amber was introduced to local guitar whiz Tommy Harkenrider as someone who is versatile enough to handle a set as varied as her's. This performance with the Ranch House Romeos includes Amber's favorite music: Rockabilly, Blues, Western Swing and Jazz. Come and see what she has put together for this cool matinee show at Original Mike's! Free parking, al ages, full menu - and a big ol' dance floor!
