You Gotta Have A Ducktail
Billy Adams
(Billy Adams, NAU-VOO 802, 1958)
You gotta have a ducktail (uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh)
Well, a-bless my soul, I can hardly wait
To see my baby at eight
I been thinkin' about her all the day long
Thinkin' what she says to me, she says
You gotta have a ducktail (uh-huh, uh-huh)
I read an ad in the magazine
It said, I groom my hair real well
I ran down to the drugstore to get me a can
To fix my baby a pretty duck-a-tail
I picked up my baby 'bout a-quarter past eight
Everything was goin' jus-a-fine
Untill I started to steal a little kiss
She says, let's have a look behind, 'cause
You gotta have a ducktail (uh-huh, uh-huh)
Yeah!
(uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh)
Well, when I see my baby, it's so hard to explain
How my hair curls when it rains
She grabbed for the comb and reaches for my hair
Then she says again, she says
You gotta have a ducktail (uh-huh, uh-huh)
Well, I'm fed up with her yakety-yak
She just can't realize
That everytime when I start to rock
My hair falls right down in my eyes
I picked up my baby and I walked her to the gate
Think that I am a-free
But when I get home, I hear the ring of the phone
Well, this is what she says to me, she says
You gotta have a ducktail (uh-huh, uh-huh)
I tried to tell her, I tried to explain
She better take just what I got
If it hadn't a-been for the hair on my head
There might have been a big a-bald spot
Well, I picked up my baby the very next day
To take her for a ride
She looked up at me, I looked down at her
She said with a smile, she says
I see you got your ducktail!
