Blackboard Jungle premieres at Loew's State, New York
The film opened with Bill Haley & His Comets' "Rock Around the Clock" playing over its credits, the first major Hollywood picture to carry rock and roll on its soundtrack. The record had gone nowhere a year earlier; after the film it reached No. 1 and stayed there for eight weeks.
