Gene Vincent & Eddie Cochran — Bristol Hippodrome 1960

More info

The final week of Larry Parnes' Anglo-American Beat Show, at the Bristol Hippodrome from Monday 11 to Saturday 16 April 1960, twice nightly at 6.25 and 8.40. The theatre's poster settles a detail the tour listings disagree about: it reads 'CLOSED GOOD FRI.', so there was no performance on Friday 15 April. Billed as 'AN ANGLO-AMERICAN FOUR STAR ATTRACTION', the week paired Gene Vincent, backed by the Fabulous Wildcats, with Eddie Cochran, over Dean Webb 'of TV's Oh Boy recording fame' and Peter Wynne, 'the new golden voice', with Billy Raymond compering, the Tony Sheridan Trio and Georgie Fame. The Hippodrome's running order for the Monday put Cochran closing the first half and Vincent closing the show. After the Saturday second house on 16 April, Cochran left for London Airport by hired car with Gene Vincent, tour manager Patrick Tompkins and his fiancee Sharon Sheeley; at about 11.50 pm the car hit a lamp post on the A4 at Rowden Hill, Chippenham. Cochran died the following afternoon, Easter Sunday 17 April 1960, at St Martin's Hospital in Bath. He was 21. These were his last performances.
