Gene Vincent (US)

1935 – 1971 In memoriam

American singer from Norfolk, Virginia, whose 'Be-Bop-A-Lula' (1956) with the Blue Caps is one of the foundational rockabilly records. He toured Australia in 1957 on Lee Gordon's Big Show and Britain in 1960 with Eddie Cochran on Larry Parnes' Anglo-American Beat Show, and was badly injured in the car crash near Chippenham that killed Cochran. A leg wound from a 1955 motorcycle accident troubled him for the rest of his career. He died in 1971.
