Chuck Berry records "Maybellene" for Chess
Berry's first session for Chess Records, cut at Universal Recording in Chicago and produced by Leonard and Phil Chess. Four songs were taped; "Maybellene", adapted in part from the western swing fiddle tune "Ida Red", became his first hit.
