Little Richard (US)
1932 – 2020 In memoriam
American singer and pianist, born Richard Penniman in Macon, Georgia. 'Tutti Frutti' (1955), 'Long Tall Sally' and 'Lucille' put him at the centre of rock 'n' roll's first wave. He headlined Lee Gordon's Big Show through Australia in October 1957 with Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran and Alis Lesley, and it was on that tour that he renounced rock 'n' roll, threw his rings into the water at Newcastle, New South Wales, and went home to train for the ministry. He died in 2020.
