On stage
More info
A week at the Manchester Hippodrome, Ardwick Green, from Monday 28 March to Saturday 2 April 1960, twice nightly at 6.25 and 8.40. The theatre's poster billed it as 'LARRY PARNES presents AN ANGLO-AMERICAN FOUR STAR ATTRACTION': Gene Vincent 'backed by the Fabulous Wildcats (by kind permission of Marty Wilde)' and Eddie Cochran, 'hit recorder of Summertime Blues and C'mon Everybody', over Billy Fury, 'Britain's newest teenage idol', and Joe Brown, 'from TV's Boy Meets Girls', with Billy Raymond as host and compere, the Tony Sheridan Trio and Georgie Fame, the 'new singing-pianist sensation'. Gene Vincent collapsed on stage on the Tuesday and was replaced on the Wednesday by Peter Wynne. The theatre, by then also known as the Ardwick Hippodrome, closed in 1961 and was demolished in 1964.
