Concert
Lee Gordon's Big Show — Melbourne 1957
On stage
More info
Three nights of Lee Gordon's 'Big Show' at the West Melbourne Stadium, Dudley Street, from Tuesday 8 to Thursday 10 October 1957, two performances each night. It was here that the tour turned: at the second Melbourne concert Little Richard told the audience he would not sing rock 'n' roll and read from the Bible instead. The Melbourne Herald of 10 October quoted him blaming the Soviet satellite launched days earlier — 'It's that Russian satellite' — and reported that he was cancelling concerts. Also on the bill: Gene Vincent and his Blue Caps, Eddie Cochran, Alis Lesley and Johnny O'Keefe and the Dee Jays. The building still stands as Festival Hall.
